What recat records, and where it goes.
Last updated 10 October 2026
recat is clip software installed on PCs in gaming cafés. This policy explains what it records, what stays on the café PC, what leaves it, and how to get something deleted. It applies to the recat desktop app, the recat.tv website and clip share pages, and to anyone who plays on a PC running recat. If a café operator has its own privacy notice, that notice applies as well.
The short version. recat records the game window, game sound and (if enabled) the microphone while a game is open. Everything stays on the PC until someone chooses to share a clip. Sharing uploads that one clip to our servers and creates an unlisted link. You can delete a shared clip at any time, and we delete the file when you do.
1. Who we are
recat is operated by the team at recat.tv. You can reach us about anything in this policy at i@endtail.com.
2. What recat records on the café PC
While a selected game is open and in the foreground, recat keeps a rolling buffer of the last few minutes and saves clips from it. It records:
- The game window only. The desktop, browser and other applications are not captured, even when they are on screen.
- Game audio, and the microphone if the café has enabled it. Voice chat from other apps is not recorded. The microphone can be muted on any clip after the fact.
- Gameplay inputs: when keys are pressed and the mouse is clicked while the game is in the foreground, so recat can spot highlights. It records key codes and timing, not the text being typed, and nothing outside the game window. Raw keystrokes and cursor positions are kept only in a short temporary buffer; what is stored alongside a clip is a summary of activity.
recat does not run keyloggers, read the clipboard, take screenshots of the desktop, or record webcams.
3. What stays on the PC
Recorded clips, full session recordings, thumbnails, settings and the rolling buffer are stored on the café PC's own disk. By default nothing is uploaded. Café operators decide how long local recordings are kept and are responsible for clearing them between customers if they choose to.
4. What leaves the PC, and when
- Sharing a clip. When a player shares a clip, that clip file (video, and audio if present) is uploaded to our servers and an unlisted link such as
recat.tv/c/…is created. Anyone with the link can watch it; it is not listed anywhere or searchable. The player can delete it at any time from the app. - AI editing. When a player asks recat to edit a clip with a text instruction, that clip and the instruction are sent to Google's Gemini API to work out the edit. Google processes it under its own API terms and we do not use it to train models. If you do not use AI editing, nothing is sent.
- Cloud backup of full sessions. This is off by default. A café may turn it on, in which case full game recordings are uploaded to our storage for that café's account.
- Account sign-in. Signing in with Discord gives us your Discord user ID, username, avatar and the email on the account. Signing in by email code gives us the email address. We use this to keep your clips and share links under one account.
- App updates. The app checks recat.tv for new versions. That request contains the app version and nothing about you.
recat does not sell personal data and does not use advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.
5. The recat.tv website
The site is static. It loads fonts from Google Fonts and emoji images from jsDelivr, both of which see your IP address when they serve those files. We do not run analytics or advertising trackers on recat.tv. Clip share pages are served through Cloudflare. We may log requests for abuse prevention and debugging; those logs are not linked to an account and are kept for no longer than 30 days.
6. Where data is stored and who processes it
Uploaded clips and session recordings are stored with Cloudflare (R2 object storage and Workers). Account data is stored with Supabase. AI edits are processed by Google (Gemini API). Sign-in via Discord is provided by Discord. These providers act on our instructions and under their own security and privacy commitments. Data may be stored or processed outside the country where you are.
7. How long we keep things
- A shared clip stays online until the player who shared it deletes it, or the account is closed. When a clip is deleted, the link stops working immediately and the file is removed from storage shortly after.
- Full session uploads are kept for the café account that uploaded them until the café deletes them or ends its agreement with us.
- Account records are kept while the account exists.
- Local recordings on a café PC are under the café's control and are not visible to us.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete any clip you shared, from the app.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything linked to it by emailing i@endtail.com from the address on the account. We will do so within 30 days.
- Ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- If you appear in someone else's shared clip and want it taken down, email us the link and we will review it promptly.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local data protection law, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Nothing here limits those rights.
9. Children
Accounts are for people aged 13 or over. Cafés that admit younger players are responsible for obtaining any consent their local law requires before those players use recat. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
10. Security
Uploads and share links are served over HTTPS. Clip links are unguessable and unlisted. Access to our storage and databases is restricted to the people who operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, so please share clips you would be comfortable with others seeing.
11. Changes
We will update this page when the way recat handles data changes, and update the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app or on recat.tv.
